Merritt Wins Gold in San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition

Forestville, NY, January 19, 2017:  San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition awards Merritt Estate Winery an award for each of the seven wines that were submitted for this national wine competition. Merritt Winery walks away from the competition with the Double Gold for Bella Rosa, Best of Class for Bella Ice, Gold Medals for Pinot Grigio, Edelweiss and Vidal Ice Wine, Silver medal for Raspberry Truffle and Bronze medal for Riesling.
 
The San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, is recognized as the largest competition of American wines in the world.  After receiving 7,000 entries from 28 states across the country, it has once again successfully narrowed thousands of wines down to an exclusive few.  Utilizing an extensive process that divided the varietals into several categories and subcategories, the event gave the panels the chance to rate entries as Bronze, Silver, Gold or "Double Gold" (equivalent to a unanimous rating by all panel members). In the second week of January, 63 judges from a variety of fields including trade, education, media, retail and hospitality, traveled to the Cloverdale Citrus Fairgrounds in Sonoma County to apply their expertise to determine the best wines in the USA.
 
This year the San Francisco Competition pulled one of their most seasoned wine judges off the panels to sit all by his lonesome and taste the best of the best and make some notes on his experience. Mike Dunne stated, "Merritt Estate Winery Bella Ice: You want a slice of grape pie that is all about a congenial summer family reunion in the Midwest, here it is."

Merritt Estate Winery is open 7 days a week, Monday - Saturday from 10 am to 6 pm and Sundays Noon to 6:00 pm. January through March, Merritt Winery closes at 5:00pm.
